Review of the Shuriken I-Draw (w/ pics)

Here is today's set up:


Today I'll be reviewing my new Shuriken I-Draw cutter:

I'll be using it on a Sol Cubano, Cuban Cabinet, Robusto. These are decent sweet and peppery little guys. Good if you can find them online as a special. This one is a little dry (60%RH in my humi, having some "minor" problems keeping it near 70%RH for some reason, but that's another issue). Anyways, here it is:

It cracked the gosh darn cap! Probably not the fault of the cutter, the cigar is just too dry I think. I will know for sure after I get my humidor back in order and try on some properly humidified sticks.

Other than that, the idea is to leave the cap intact and only have the 6 little slits in the cap to draw through. Interesting idea.

The cigar was a little too dry, and that probably diminished overall quality of the smoking experience. It was still alright, but not as good as it should have been. The draw was damn good though. Plenty of volume, got what is probably a full flavor profile (difficult to say with a dryer cigar). No tobacco dust or flakes with the draw, very clean, even with a cigar that is a bit too dry. This cutter might just be a new favorite. I will have to continue to rigorously test and evaluate this product. What I will likely do is smoke a 5-pack on 5 consecutive days and use 5 different cuts to compare them in a more pseudo-scientific way. I have a 5'er of Partagas Cifuentes, so I'll guillotine, scissor, v-cut, punch, and Shuriken one and compare and contrast. The sacrifices I make for you guys...

At CI they go for between $20 and $40. At famous they are $20.

I have seen them on "The Monster" for cheaper once in a while. CI is out of all styles, so I doubt they'll appear on Joe's Daily Deal or Joe's Jam. I paid $16 on CBid. I doubt they will have them anytime soon because CI is out of them.

I guess if you really want one, it'd be worth $20 at Famous if you want one now. Just get yourself one of the "free shipping boxes/samplers" or order something from the Monster so you can grab free shipping.

I've seen that cutter in person. And seen it used. You just have to be careful to not cut the cap all the way through.
