I have a PumpMag with a capped/devolumized valve running a Bob Long Torpedo(?) reg. I originally set it up using a Micro CAII and 12g's with all of the devolumizing shims in. I was able to air up with the 12g's and use under 600psi to get fairly consistently in the 270-290 range. I think at one point that I got 25/26 useable shots and that was in weather under 50*.

I also set it up at one point using a 20oz CO2 tank and was still able to acheive decent FPS, in the 270-280 range keeping all the shims in and staying under 600psi to the valve.

I am going to CPX this weekend for LL5 and hoping to make it for the pump and pistol game so I figured I would try to set it up using HPA as I really don't feel like fiddling around with 12g's on my first time really playing pump. I turned the reg out to make sure I didnt have too much pressure going into the valve and did some shooting. I shortly realized that in order to get up to 280fps that I had to have the reg wide open dumping 600+ psi to the valve. I thought about it and decided to try it without some of the DV shims. I took out all the loose ones and just left the big one in. Nope, still had to have the pressure up on the reg well over 600psi, but I was able to get up to 280+. I took the rest of the shims out and am able to get in the correct range with only having pressure between 500 and 600psi.

Now I get why on HPA I was able to get better FPS with lower pressure, without the shims. What I don't get is why WITH the shims on CO2, I was able to get higher FPS with lower pressure? I have not tried the valve without shims and CO2, but gleaning from the info gotten so far, I would guess that I would be able to get 280FPS with less than 400psi.

Is it because CO2 continues to expand?

I also noticed that trying to use HPA at the higher PSI with the reg that I have that I was getting pretty bad "reg creep".
